Motivation Romania Foundation recently received a new shipment of wheelchairs generously donated by our partners at A Leg To Stand On (ALTSO). These seating positioning systems will be donated to 115 children and young people with mobility disabilities over the course of a year, making a meaningful impact on their quality of life.

Our partnership with ALTSO began in 2023, and since then we have donated 95 wheelchairs, changing just as many lives for the better. These wheelchairs have helped children and young people with disabilities regain their freedom of movement and take important steps toward an active, independent life.

In 2024, we were pleased to welcome A.J. Warco, Program Director at ALTSO, who visited the Motivation team and met with some of the CoolKids and their families – our program beneficiaries. During his stay, A.J. also participated in a wheelchair basketball training session, where he met some of our adaptive athletes.

For millions of people, assistive technology (“AT”) is not available, accessible or affordable – particularly in low and middle income countries. According to the World Bank, approximately 1 out of every 20 people in Romania holds a disability certificate totaling nearly 900,000 individuals, of which roughly 77,000 are children. We want to play our part in providing AT to children and adolescents (21 years of age and younger) that require appropriately fitted wheelchairs and specialized seating systems.
During my visit to Romania in August 2024 to meet with our partner, Motivation Romania Foundation and spend time with our CoolKids and their families, it is apparent there is a high demand for AT throughout the country. With that in mind, we couldn’t ask for a better partner to work with locally to combat this need and look forward to providing mobility solutions for many years to come. A.J.
