No matter what I did, I couldn’t shake the heavy feeling I’d had ever since she was still in my tummy: “Something isn’t ok.” I kept telling the doctor she wasn’t moving much, and he kept reassuring me that she was simply a ”calm baby.”
At her baptism, I noticed the baby before her moving her little legs, full of energy. My little Irina, was so still… unusually still for a newborn.
I took it as a sign, and after the ceremony we went back to the doctor — Flori, Irina’s mom, remembers.
A month later, her fears were confirmed. The doctors diagnosed Irina with spinal muscular atrophy(SMA), a rare genetic condition that affects the muscles and keeps her from being able to walk.
Irina is now 7 years old, and her world is bright and full of dreams. Between therapy sessions and medical treatments, she loves playing with her ponies — “hundreds and thousands of ponies,” as she proudly says about her collection. Fluttershy is her favorite.
Motivation Foundation gaves Irina her first wheelchair when she was just one year old. As she grew, we made sure she always had one that fit her needs and felt like a true companion.
At the Motivation Camp, she learned how to handle her wheelchair on her own, just as her mother encourages her to do. Now she celebrates every small victory, and it is easier for her to explore, make friends, and catch up to her brother for a warm hug.

200 EUR covers the cost of a suitable wheelchair
and helps a child go to school, enjoy time with friends, and play. Every year, Motivation donates over 1,000 wheelchairs to children and adults with disabilities across the country.
1000 EUR covers the participation of a young person in a camp
helping them relearn how to live actively and independently after an accident. Each year, the active recovery program helps 70 people regain their role in the community. Wheelchair instructors provide inspiring examples of success.
1,500 EUR covers a month of lunches for the 22 youth
with moderate and severe disabilities, whom we transferred from state-run institutions when they were children. We give our youth the protection and warmth of a family, as well as access to therapies that help them discover themselves and improve their skills.
