During the month of May 2014, 16 wheelchair users were the first ones to receive new services from Motivation Romania Foundation through the ACCESS to Education, Services and Community for wheelchair users Project, financed through the 2009 – 2014 EEA grants, within the NGO Fund in Romania.
Out of them, eight wheelchair users received home care services provided by a multidisciplinary team, which includes an independent living trainer, a physical therapist, a social worker, a physician and a nurse. These home care services are available over a period of three months.
Four children with mobility disabilities had an easier access to education thanks to the assisted transportation service, through which they were able to go to school.
Also, during the group support activity, four wheelchair users participated in individual and group psychologic counselling. Thus, they had the opportunity to share their experience with the independent living trainer and to find solutions to the challenges they face.
The ACCESS to Education, Services and Community for wheelchair users is financed through the 2009 – 2014 EEA grants, within the NGO Fund in Romania, with the amount of 245,136 Euros. The project is implemented in the Bucharest – Ilfov region, between March 1, 2014 and April 30, 2016 and develops three new services: assisted transportation and accessibility, home care and group support. All three services aim to improve health, to develop independent living abilities and increase social participation of 144 wheelchair users – children and adults.
