Motivation is celebrating 30 years of changing lives for the better

30 Years of Positive Change for Children and Adults with Disabilities in Romania On February 15, 2025, the Motivation Romania Foundation celebrates 30 years of providing support and developing programs dedicated to people with disabilities in Romania. Three decades of work, commitment, and determination have helped build a more inclusive community, where the independence and freedom of every person with disabilities come first.

Over the past 30 years, more than 30,000 people with disabilities in Romania have regained their independence with the help of the Motivation Foundation. Today, through its 15 regional teams, the foundation continues to provide essential free services in both urban and rural communities.

“In 1995, we set out with the goal of helping wheelchair users enjoy a fulfilling life in their daily activities. Initially, we produced customized wheelchairs, which we donated to those in need. Over time, we realized that, in addition to providing wheelchairs, we also needed to teach people how to use them safely and to their full potential.

Today, we are proud to support children born with medical conditions that lead to disabilities, as well as children, young people, and adults who acquire mobility impairments due to car accidents, diving injuries, or falls from heights across the country. Each year, we donate suitable wheelchairs and teach recipients how to use them in their daily activities with the help of independent living instructors—who are themselves wheelchair users. We want to continue changing lives for the better and contribute to a society where inclusion is more than just a trendy term,” said Corina Cociorvă, General Director of the Motivation Romania Foundation.

Celebrating 30 Years, Motivation Means:

Over 30,000 people with disabilities have benefited from Motivation’s services.

More than 1,300 mobility aids donated to hospitals, care centers, or other institutions.

Over 5,000 children and adults regained independence through active rehabilitation sessions.

More than 17,700 km run by athletes with and without disabilities in #TeamMotivation.

Over 2,400 participants trained on how to interact with people with disabilities.

22 young people with moderate and severe disabilities, raised in the Motivation family, have access to therapies and a home after being taken in from placement centers.

More than 1,000 people with disabilities and from disadvantaged groups employed with Motivation’s support.

Three awareness campaigns on disability rights and accident prevention to avoid spinal cord injuries.

Angel uses a wheelchair due to a fall from a height. He benefited from Motivation Foundation’s active rehabilitation programs and is now a role model for others. “During my training, under the guidance of an independent living instructor and the team, I learned more than I expected— from how to do the wheelie to valuable information about my health and how to function better.” he said.

Today, Angel is part of the Motivation team and works as an independent living instructor for wheelchair users. Each year, he teaches children and adults how to handle their wheelchairs safely and correctly, using his own experiences and the knowledge he has gained as a mentor and program participant.

Another key initiative of the Motivation Romania Foundation is the Impact Program, launched in 2003. Since then, Motivation has taken in 37 children with moderate and severe disabilities from placement centers in Ilfov County. Over the past 22 years, these children have received not only a safe place to call home, but also support, protection, and the warmth of a family.

Today, 22 young people in Motivation’s homes benefit from therapies that help them unlock their potential, develop communication and social skills, and learn essential skills for a semi-independent life.

Ionuț, a young man from the Impact program, shares: “I came here when I was six years old, and I love being part of the Motivation family. I grew up among friends, brothers, and sisters. I feel like a hero when I help others.”
