Wheelchair basketball, in Satu Mare

Motivation Romania Foundation is pleased to invite you to the demonstration wheelchair basketball game “Abilities Matter”, organized in partnership with the Sports High School in Satu Mare and the Special Olympics Sports Club. During the event, wheelchair-using athletes will showcase their mobility and sportsmanship to promote the abilities of people with disabilities and to mark the one-year anniversary of the only wheelchair basketball team in Satu Mare.

In addition to witnessing wheelchair athletes dribble and score, spectators will be invited to try shooting hoops from a seated position and learn more about adapted sports.

The Satu Mare wheelchair basketball team consists of eight wheelchair-using athletes, guided by the experienced coach Adriana Pricop. Established in November 2023, the team’s main goal is to participate in as many competitions as possible. So far, the athletes from Satu Mare have competed in the National Wheelchair Basketball Championship, organized by the Romanian Basketball Federation. Additionally, three players were selected by the Romanian Basketball Federation to represent Romania at the BIG – Basketball Inclusive Games competition, held in September 2024 in Bulgaria.

The “Abilities Matter” wheelchair basketball game will take place on Wednesday, November 27, starting at 11:00 AM, at the sports hall of the Sports High School in Satu Mare, located at Ioan Slavici Street, No. 54, Satu Mare.

#TeamMotivation Satu Mare plays under Special Olympics Sports Club and aims to continue adapted basketball activities with the support of the local community—individuals eager to foster inclusion and promote an active lifestyle. The basketball demonstration on November 27 is part of a broader initiative to strengthen #TeamMotivation wheelchair basketball teams and promote inclusion through sports. This follows an experience exchange on adapted sports in the United States, as part of the Sport for Social Change program run by PH International.
