Unique rally car experience for six wheelchair users

Six wheelchair users experienced some of the greatest sensations in a circuit experience with professional instructors. The Track Day Experience defensive driving event – a day on the track, in a rally car took place on October 31 and November 1, on Târgu Mureș circuit, and was organized by Motivation Romania Foundation in partnership with Napoca Rally Academy .

The event was organized in two parts, so on the first day there was the theoretical defensive driving session, followed by some practical exercises on braking and avoiding obstacles in case of emergency. On the second day, the participants practiced with a skid simulator. Afterwards, all those present went out on the circuit with two Cupra Formentor cars, provided by Topcar Transilvania, and with the rally car of Ciprian Lupu, the first driver in Romania using a wheelchair.

Throughout the event, the participants were accompanied by an instructor. From Napoca Rally Academy’s side joyned Simone Tempestini, Sergiu Itu and Norbert Maior, some of the most successful athletes in the National Rally Championship.

“The two days event were unforgettable, and i’m thanking to Ciprian, Simone Tempestini and all those who worked hard to make everything go perfectly. I learned new things both for driving on public roads and on the competition course. A unique experience, until now,” said Cătălin Petroșanu, one of the participants.

The moments captured in the photos (photo credit Mihnea Tatu – mihneatatu.ro) illustrate the enthusiasm and impatience of the participants in the event and highlight their skills, thus encouraging other wheelchair users to follow their dreams.

The unique event was organized within the project “Advocacy for community access of wheelchair users”, implemented by Motivation Romania Foundation in partnership with Segoia Association, with the financial support of Active Citizens Fund Romania, a program financed by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through Grants EEA 2014-2021.  The project aims to support the social inclusion of people with disabilities by improving the mobility and health of wheelchair users.
