Abilities matter exhibition
Through Abilities Matter photo gallery, we aim to highlight the different roles that wheelchair users can play and celebrate diversity. Even though people with disabilities are often associated with the idea of vulnerability or, on the contrary, with that of superhumans, in fact, people with disabilities are people just like everyone else. Disability is an integral part of the human condition. To be able to develop and use their skills in the communities they belong to, to be active and independent, disabled people need appropriate mobility equipment, an accessible environment and positive attitudes of the people around them, who practice inclusion and to cultivate empathy. People with disabilities are our neighbors, our colleagues or our children, they are drivers we meet in traffic, they are service providers we access daily. Sometimes we recognize them as disabled, sometimes not. There are invisible disabilities as well as temporary disabilities. Be that as it may, people define themselves by much more than the disability they live with, and that’s what we want to illustrate through the photo exhibition Abilities Matter.
We are grateful to everyone who appears in the images on this website and shares their experience to build an inclusive world.
The online photo exhibition Skills matter was created within the project “Advocacy for community access of wheelchair users”, implemented by the Motivation Romania Foundation in partnership with the Segoia Association, with the financial support of Active Citizens Fund Romania, a program financed by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA Grants 2014-2021. It aims to support the social inclusion of disabled people by improving the mobility and health of wheelchair users.
