216 people with disabilities attended the Mobility Caravan organized by Motivation

The Mobility and Health Caravan for wheelchair users took place this year, between June and September, in 15 counties in Romania: Buzau, Timiș, Mehedinți, Galați, Neamț, Iași, Bihor, Satu Mare, Cluj, Argeș, Sibiu, Prahova, Constanta, Brasov and Ilfov. During the 4 months, 141 wheelchair users and 84 wheelchair users participated in the Caravan.

For the second consecutive year, the event was organized as part of the “Advocacy for community access for wheelchair users” project. The project is implemented by Motivation Romania Foundation in partnership with Segoia Association, with the financial support of Active Citizens Fund Romania, a program financed by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA Grants 2014-2021. The project aims to support the social inclusion of people with disabilities by improving the mobility and health of wheelchair users.

More information about the project can be found by accessing the link https://motivation.ro/en/abilities-and-rights-matter/.

At each event, regional Motivation teams offer specific wheelchair mobility and health services to participants, delivered with new assistive equipment and products, such as pressure testing with the BodiTrak system. Through the pressure testing workshop, highly appreciated by the participants, and the proper adjustment of the cushion and the wheelchair, the caravan has a direct impact on improving the health and mobility of wheelchair users. Also, the participants are presented with aspects related to accessibility and mobility, rights and how to access them, as well as useful tools for self-representation. Such tools are the two free mobile apps, MotiActiv and Panoul de Bord, as well as the Rights guide of people with disabilities using wheelchairs.

The objective of the Mobility and Health Caravan is to facilitate access to innovative services and high-performance mobility and assistive equipment for people using wheelchairs, to contribute to improving their health and encourage them to become active and independent people again.

As part of the “Advocacy for community access of wheelchair users” project, two Caravan events have been organized so far, attended by 216 wheelchair users from 15 counties in Romania.
