Between March and April 2023, Motivation Romania Foundation organized the last Mobility and Health Caravan for wheelchair users, as part of the “Advocacy for community access to wheelchair users” project.
This year’s Caravan was attended by 36 wheelchair users from five counties in the country: Prahova, Cluj, Neamț, Galați and Sibiu. Since the beginning of the project, 247 wheelchair users and 147 relatives have participated in the Wheelchair Mobility and Health Caravan, which included 35 events in 15 counties in the country.
During the caravan, the participants received specific wheelchair mobility and health services, provided by the regional Motivation teams, with the help of high-performance equipment and assistive products that use modern technologies. One of these is the pressure test service with the BodiTrak system, a unique service in Romania, which allows the proper adjustment of the cushion and the wheelchair, so that wheelchair users can prevent specific health problems and improve their mobility.
Also, in the workshops on the rights of people with disabilities, the participants were presented with aspects related to accessibility and mobility, rights and their access, as well as useful tools for self-representation. Such tools are the two free mobile apps, MotiActiv and Dashboard, as well as the Guide to the rights of disabled wheelchair users.
The mobility and health caravan for wheelchair users was organized within the project “Advocacy for wheelchair users’ access to the community”, a project run by the Motivation Romania Foundation in partnership with the Segoia Association, with the financial support of Active Citizens Fund Romania, program funded by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through EEA Grants 2014-2021. The project aims to support the social inclusion of people with disabilities by improving the mobility and health of wheelchair users.
